Solicitors offering legal services to the public from unregulated entities
The SRA Standards and Regulations allow solicitors to deliver non-reserved legal services to the public from a business not regulated by a legal services regulator. This practice note outlines the regulatory requirements and offers support to solicitors who work, or are considering working, in this way.
This practice note should be read by solicitors employed, or considering being employed, by businesses not authorised by a legal services regulator who are intending to provide legal services to the public.
It outlines the opportunities and risks of this model, which enables solicitors to provide “non-reserved legal services” to clients outside the organisation the solicitor is employed by.
This practice note is the Law Society’s view of good practice in this area, and is not legal advice. For more information, see the legal status.
