This practice notes provides guidance on the storage and destruction of the original files and documents for solicitors working on wills, lifetime gifts and estate administration.
Firms must have a clear policy on the storage and destruction of these documents. Disputes and challenges to wills may arise many years after the original advice was given, and so it's important to keep adequate records.
This practice note is the Law Society’s view of good practice in this area, and is not legal advice. For more information see the legal status.
