Artificial intelligence

The use of AI is rising rapidly, with the legal industry recognised as one being particularly impacted.

For law firms and in-house teams, this is not a matter of being replaced by AI, but being replaced by those that are using it better.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority’s risk outlook report cites that:

  • three quarters of the largest solicitors’ firms were using AI – nearly twice the number from just three years ago
  • over 60% of large law firms were at least exploring the potential of the new generative systems, but only a third of small firms

For many firms and in-house teams – particularly smaller and mid-sized organisations – the challenge is knowing where to start.

This waiting game may be catastrophic. Rather than AI being a levelling tool, it may mean one is unable to compete against those better resourced if steps are not taken at this stage to understand AI and where it may be relevant.

Legaltech – embracing the digital agenda
