Disability, race and sexuality intersectionality conversation - part two

Yasmin Sheikh, vice chair of the Lawyers with Disabilities Division (LDD) and multi-award winning international speaker, sits down with Harun Tulunay for the second part of our intersectionality conversation.

Harun speaks about his experience as a gay and ethnic minority man living with HIV and how we can break the stigma.

Harun Tulunay is the webinar and podcast commissioning editor at the Law Society.

Harun studied computer science and engineering in Turkey. After working as an international events manager for ten years, he moved to the UK in 2015 to escape discrimination and the hostile environment he faced.

He started to work as a freelance events manager and marketing executive in London. 

When he was diagnosed with HIV in 2016, he decided to become an ambassador for good sexual health and mental health and started to volunteer for charities in UK. 

He delivers public speeches and shares his life experiences to tackle the stigma and to raise awareness of HIV and mental health. He also works as a peer mentor to support other people living with HIV and manages a Turkish blog to translate and share the most up to date information on sexual health. 

His story not only covers the problems he has had as someone living with HIV but also the stigma he faced as a gay man in Turkey.

Harun joined the Law Society in 2018 to commission webinars and podcasts. He is also a member of Law Society LGBT+ Lawyers Division as an ally and Law Society social committee.
