Personal Injury Accreditation

Our Personal Injury Accreditation is a recognised quality standard for practitioners representing victims and their dependents in personal injury matters.

The accreditation covers all work done on behalf of claimants and their dependents, who have suffered personal injuries or fatal injuries as a result of an alleged act of negligence or breach of statutory duty.

Being accredited:

  • ensures that clients can identify you as a legal practitioner with proven competency in personal injury law
  • demonstrates that you comply with a best practice quality mark that clients can trust
  • shows that you maintain relevant standards of competency and expertise in the field through re-accreditation

Eligibility

To apply for the accreditation, you must be one of the following:

  • a solicitor
  • a member of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX)

You must also be able to show that you have:

  • personally conducted personal injury matters for claimants or defendants for at least three years
  • experience of taking or defending at least 10 cases to reach costs and case management conference, with at least one case being set down for trial
  • demonstrable experience of handling at least two issued claims involving a dispute on liability and one claim involving a minor or protected party

If you do not exactly meet the entry criteria, we’ll consider your application if you can demonstrate a detailed and up-to-date understanding of personal injury litigation.

For example, you may be in a supervisory role where your caseload is small but consists of high-value, complex cases.

CILEx applicants should have passed the institute's civil litigation and tort papers before applying. 

How to apply

To apply for accreditation, you’ll need to:

  • meet the eligibility requirements
  • submit a detailed application and portfolio

The accreditation process takes around six to eight weeks.

It can take longer if we receive high volumes of applications or if you do not give us all the information we need.

Membership of the accreditation lasts for three years.

You can apply to be re-accredited up to three months before your accreditation expires.

Cost

The cost of the accreditation is made up of an application fee and a membership fee.

We’ll send you an invoice when we receive your application.

Application fees are not-refundable.
