How to apply
Our Family Law Advanced Accreditation is a recognised quality standard for family law practitioners.
To apply for accreditation, you’ll need to submit a detailed application and pass an assessment.
The application process takes around six to eight weeks. It can take longer if we receive high volumes of applications or if you do not send us all the information we need.
Step 1: Read the guidance
Before you begin your application, read the:
- general application criteria and guidance (PDF 345 KB)

- case study and case report guidance (PDF 84 KB)
Step 2: Complete the form
Complete both parts of the application form:
- section 1 - individual and organisation details (Word 216 KB)
- section 2 - initial application (Word 93 KB)
You should indicate which two specialist areas you’d like to be assessed on in section two.
Step 3: Submit your application
Your completed application is made up of:
- your application form
- two anonymised case reports on cases you have personally conducted in the last two years
Do not send files larger than 18 MB. If necessary, send your supporting documents in separate emails.

Step 4: Complete a case study
Our accreditations team will check your application. We’ll let you know if we need any more information from you.
We’ll email you a case study with questions based on the specialist areas you selected.
You must complete and return the case study within 14 days.

Step 5: Pay the application fee
We’ll send you an invoice when we receive your application.
The application fee is £618 (VAT included).

Step 6: Accreditation
Our accreditation team will review and assess your application.
We’ll let you know the outcome of your application once we’ve received your payment.
Adding additional specialist areas
If you're an accredited member, you can add up to two specialist areas.
This costs £150 + VAT per area.
Additional specialist areas will be assessed in the same way as the initial accreditation process. You’ll need to complete and submit:
- both parts of the application form indicating the additional specialist area(s) together with the case report(s)
- a case study
Appeals
If your application is unsuccessful, we’ll refund your membership fee.
You may appeal against our decision.
